Reading is one of life's greatest treasures!  Here at TLC, we are passionate about helping children find the joy in reading while learning in a Christian faith-based community!   With that, research shows children learn to read by reading...BUT they don't tend to do much reading over the summer.  As a result, they lose some academic gains they had made over the previous school year.  The goal of our Summer Smarties program is to prevent the summer learning loss or what some people refer to as the Summer Slide. Again, research shows students typically lose some of the achievement goals they made in the school year over the summer months.

The Summer Smarties course is a quality program taught by an experienced, effective teacher that includes research-based curriculum and instructional practices.  In addition...and perhaps most importantly... the program will be fun for kids!  Students will look forward to attending class as we will build a positive, supportive reading community together.

Our Reading Community...

In our reading community we will cheer each other on and support each other's learning. The teacher will be a resource for learning but the cognitive load will be on the children. They will learn largely via collaboration with peers.
